Sierra: tree-rope-rock
Images from a month backpacking on the John Muir Trail, Sierra Nevada Mountains, California, August 1974. During the walk I set up a series of slide sequences at sites along the way. Following methods of my work PROJECTIONS (1970-73) Sierra documents events in place and time. Movement in “tree” is created incrementally from closeup to wide frame within a brief time. “Rope” proceeds from wide to close during a day. From a fixed position and by refocusing “rock” fades into twilight. The slide sequence re-cycles in reverse order forming a continuous loop.
